One Book-One Family met for the last time this year on April 8th for age-appropriate, family reading activities within the school. The families registered enjoyed the opportunity to meet monthly for a quick meal and activities dealing with the book distributed the month prior.
Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads Of Great Students) is looking for male role models interested in participating in this experience. Watch D.O.G.S. volunteer at the school in classrooms and around the building at least once during the course of the year from approximately 8 AM to 3:15 PM. Everett Family Computer Nights continue to be available on Thursdays and Fridays between 3:00 PM & 6:00 PM, Everett families can “drop-in” and join teachers in RM 203 (Computer Lab) for an hour with your child(ren) or for all three hours, if you choose. Homework assistance will be provided along with family computer learning time where hundreds of “learning” websites will be explored to develop reading, writing, and mathematic technology experiences. You can also get assistance with creating worksheets for home extension activities.
Everett Spring into the New Year is scheduled for May 22nd from 6-7 PM. The CLC, PTA, and other organizations will be making available information and registrations that pertain to summer opportunities, plans related to next school year, and additional parent / family involvement opportunities. Don’t miss out on this family event that assists with preparing for the summer and the school year to come!
Everett was a proud recipient of a grant through Solid Foundations that provides us with the opportunity to improve parent involvement at our school through a School Community Council and a Parent Information Resource Center. If you wish to join us on the council, we meet on the 1st & 3rd Wednesdays of the month from 2-3 PM. Our next meeting is May 7th from 2-3 PM. The next School Neighborhood Advisory Committee (SNAC) meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, May 13th from 4:15 to 5:15 PM @ Lakeview Elementary School in the Staff Lounge.
SMART (Shaping Minds And Rebuilding Tomorrow) met for the last time this year on April 22nd.
Cub Scouts continues to have a great year at Everett and will wrap up its meetings on May 28th. This after school opportunity for 2nd-5th grade boys meets on Wednesdays from 2:53-4 PM. Cub Scouts is a program designed for boys with a focus on educational experience concerned with values. Scouting activities are designed to build character, physical fitness, practical skills, and service.
4-H continues to meet on Tuesdays from 2:53-4 PM. 4-H is open to 1st - 5th graders at Everett and uses the approach of experiential learning to develop practical and life skills is directly aligned with the CLC’s objective of “building personal, social, and leadership skills.”
The Mind & Design Art Club meets for the last time on April 29th. This club gave 3rd-5th grade students the opportunity to gain information pertaining to the basics of art, digital photography, graphic design, and preparing for an art show. Select projects from this opportunity will be displayed at the 1st Friday Art Walk on May 2nd!
“Bursting with Talent” will continue to meet on Fridays through May 23rd. Everett’s Talent Show is scheduled for May 1st from 7-8:30 PM in the multipurpose room / cafeteria.
Nature Club has been a wonderful opportunity for the 2nd -5th grade students enrolled in this Monday activity that runs through May 12th. In his book, “Last Child in the Woods”, author Richard Louv writes that today’s youth know more about the animals of other continents than they know about those animals living in their own neighborhood. He believes that today’s youth are growing up less connected to NATURE than previous generations, and that it will have serious consequences for their mental, emotional and spiritual health. Mr. Wylie grew up Boy Scouting, has camped and hiked all over the United States with his family, and would like to share his love of nature with Everett students.
PhotoVoice Club will create a photo exhibit that will develop a better understanding of pedestrian safety. The Safe Kids Worldwide Walk This Way program is illustrating the risks children face as pedestrians in several World cities. Everett students are using photography to capture pedestrian environments in the area. Their exhibit will be created using the children’s photos to educate the public as a starting point for policy changes and discussions on global road safety. PhotoVoice will meet for the last time on May 22nd.
“Skittles” Chess Club is on the move and continues to meet on Fridays through the end of the school year. “Skittles” is the name they have given to playing casual games of chess. As in the past, this activity will provide students with the opportunity to learn about the game of chess and the skills and strategies involved that make for a fun game to play with friends and family. Keep your eyes peeled for an Everett Chess Tournament registration. The Nebraska Chess League and Everett’s CLC are collaborating to make available this wonderful opportunity available to over 100 elementary age students on May 17th!
